On the evening of October 10, 2025, deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Highway 111 and Adams Street in La Quinta. Upon arrival, deputies found two juveniles who had been hit by a vehicle while riding their bicycles across the highway. The vehicle had left the scene before law enforcement arrived.

Paramedics transported the juveniles to a local hospital, where they were treated for major injuries. Authorities later located the suspect vehicle in La Quinta and detained the driver, identified as Jose Villegasorbe, a 47-year-old resident of Palm Springs.

According to investigators, Villegasorbe was intoxicated during the incident and was also involved in a separate hit-and-run collision in Indian Wells. At the time of these events, Villegasorbe was on probation for a previous driving under the influence conviction. He was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on charges including vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and violation of probation.

“This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional details are available at this time,” according to the sheriff’s department.
