The Coachella Valley Firebirds extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-0 victory over the Abbotsford Canucks on Sunday at Acrisure Arena. Goaltender Jack LaFontaine recorded his second career shutout by stopping all 27 shots from Abbotsford, while Logan Morrison scored twice to lead the offense.
John Hayden put the Firebirds ahead early in the first period, scoring a powerplay goal just over four minutes into the game. Mitchell Stephens provided the primary assist and Ty Nelson added a secondary assist on Hayden’s tenth goal of the season. Later in the first, Logan Morrison netted another powerplay goal for his 19th of the year, assisted by Jagger Firkus and Oscar Fisker Molgaard.
After a scoreless second period, Morrison scored again in the third—his 20th of the season—with assists from Firkus and Jani Nyman.
Jack LaFontaine kept Abbotsford off the scoreboard throughout, marking back-to-back shutouts for Coachella Valley for the first time in franchise history. Both teams finished with 27 shots on goal. The Firebirds were perfect on special teams, going two-for-two on powerplays and three-for-three killing penalties. With this win, their record improved to 21-12-4-0.
