Deputies from the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of grand theft on July 24, 2025, in the unincorporated area of Lake Mathews. The incident occurred at the 17000 block of Multiview Drive, where a victim reported that about $8,200 worth of tools and equipment had been stolen by a former employee.

The investigation led deputies to identify Alex Caballero, a 21-year-old resident of San Jacinto, as the suspect. The Lake Mathews Station Special Enforcement Team (SET) took over the case.

On August 14, 2025, SET deputies found Caballero’s vehicle in Winchester. They conducted a traffic stop and arrested Caballero without incident. Deputies then recovered the stolen property at a residence on Sunswept Drive in San Jacinto. Caballero was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of embezzlement.

“This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Deputy Casanova at (951) 272–5600.”
