Lake Mathews man arrested for attempted homicide after August vehicle incident

On August 9, 2025, deputies from the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of an individual being intentionally struck by a vehicle in the 22000 block of Gavilan Road in the unincorporated area of Lake Mathews, Riverside County. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim, who was then transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspect was identified as Brian Paul, age 48 and a resident of Lake Mathews. According to authorities, Paul had left the area before law enforcement arrived and was not immediately located.

On November 18, 2025, members of the Lake Mathews Station Special Enforcement Team found Brian Paul during an unrelated investigation and arrested him without incident. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of attempted homicide.

The investigation is ongoing. “The Riverside Sheriff’s Lake Mathews Station requests that anyone with information regarding this investigation contact Deputy Torres with the Lake Mathews Station Special Enforcement Team by calling (951) 272–5600 or the Riverside Sheriff’s Dispatch at (951) 776–1099.”
