The Living Desert has introduced four new members to its African aviary—spur-winged lapwing chicks. Hatched during the week of April 29 to first-time parents, Peeper Parker and MJ, these young birds are already exploring their habitat.

From the moment they hatched, the chicks have been active, showcasing their long legs and curious nature. Observers can see them stretching and wandering around their environment.

On May 14, the Animal Care team and Veterinary Staff conducted the chicks’ first check-up. “We’re happy to report that they are thriving, meeting all their developmental milestones, and are healthy and active,” said a representative from The Living Desert.

Spur-winged lapwings grow quickly; within one month, these chicks will reach full size. Visitors have a limited time to see them in their chick-like state before they mature into adults.
