The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is celebrating the arrival of two new chicks belonging to one of the world’s most endangered bird species. Born to Bastet and Ra, two waldrapp ibis, also known as northern bald ibis, the chicks recently hatched at The Living Desert.
These births are significant due to the critically low population of this species in the wild, with only a few hundred remaining. The hatchlings are part of the Northern Bald Ibis Species Survival Plan, a strategic and scientific program managed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. This plan aims to maintain a healthy, genetically diverse, and demographically stable population for the long-term future.
