According to a statement shared on social media, actress, author, health advocate, and long-time Palm Springs resident Suzanne Somers passed away on Sunday morning. The City of Palm Springs expressed their condolences and paid tribute to Somers, who was a beloved member of the community for over four decades.

Mayor Grace Garner said, “The City of Palm Springs is heartbroken to learn of the passing of iconic actress, author, health guru, and long-time resident Suzanne Somers, a much loved member of our community for more than 40 years.” Garner described Somers as “a bright star in our city” and expressed gratitude for her support and love for Palm Springs. Garner added, “She was truly a part of the magic that makes Palm Springs like no place else and we will never forget her.”

Somers, who was known for her contributions to health and wellness, passed away peacefully at her home in the early morning. She had been battling an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. Surrounded by her husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family, Somers’ passing occurred on the same day they were gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday. A statement on her Instagram read, “Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”

Born in California, Somers gained fame for her role as the vivacious blonde character on the television series “Three’s Company” until she was dismissed after advocating for equal pay. She went on to achieve substantial success with the ThighMaster, a personal fitness device that brought her considerable wealth. Throughout her career, she authored several books on health and wellness, and remained in the public eye due to her unconventional medical choices.

As a long-time resident of Palm Springs, Somers consistently showed her support for the Palm Springs Police and Fire departments. She had the honor of serving as the Celebrity Grand Marshal of the Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade in 2013 and was involved in the christening of the BUZZ Trolley in 2014.

Somers’ son, Bruce Somers Jr, took to Instagram to share his grief and reflect on his mother’s impact. He described her as an advocate for those who did not have a voice and thanked her for being the best mother any son could ever dream of. He expressed his longing for more time with her, saying, “Thank you for being the best mother any son could ever dream of. I miss you already. Call me greedy, but 57 years wasn’t enough. And yet, I received more love than I could ever imagine.”

The passing of Suzanne Somers marks the end of an era for Palm Springs and the entertainment industry. Her contributions as an actress, author, and health advocate have left a lasting impact, and she will be remembered for her talent, resilience, and dedication to her community.
