Riverside Fire Chief Michael Moore has announced his impending retirement, marking the conclusion of a 42-year career in public service. According to Moore, who has headed the Riverside Fire Department for approximately ten years, his retirement will take effect in September.
“My four decades in the fire service represent a dream come true in terms of public service,” said Moore. “I’ve been blessed to work with thousands of exemplary individuals who made it their life’s work to protect the public. That has especially been true during my time here in Riverside, where the commitment to excellence remains strong.”
According to an April 19 press release issued by the city, Moore’s retirement announcement coincided with the 42nd anniversary of his commencement of service in the fire department. In addition to leading the fire department, Moore also previously served as the interim city manager, as stated by the city.
The Press-Enterprise reported that Moore joined the Riverside Fire Department in 2014 and played a crucial role in managing the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moore’s tenure as a public servant is not limited to Riverside. He served as fire chief for several other cities including Yorba Linda, Tustin, Placentia, Villa Park and Irvine, according to The Press-Enterprise.
Another significant achievement in Moore’s career was his involvement in passing Measure Z. This one-cent sales tax was approved by voters for restoring and enhancing public safety measures within the city.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Moore is an alumnus of California State University, Long Beach where he earned a master’s degree in public administration. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Redlands School of Business & Society.
