The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway has resumed normal operations, with the first car departing at noon, the last car up scheduled for 8:00 p.m., and the final descent at 9:30 p.m. Officials have announced that they are ready to welcome visitors back to the tramway.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is managed by the Mount San Jacinto Winter Park Authority, a California state agency, and operates as a self-funded entity. It repaid $8.15 million in private revenue bonds by 1996, according to its official website.
Recognized as a historical civil engineering landmark and referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” the tramway was opened in 1963 after innovative construction and has since been modernized for improved visitor experiences. The tramway features the world’s largest rotating tram car, transporting guests from the desert floor to an elevation of 8,516 feet in Mount San Jacinto State Park.
The mountain station includes restaurants, observation decks, a natural history museum, theaters, and access to hiking trails. The tramway enhances public access to wilderness areas and promotes appreciation of local landscapes such as Coachella Valley and Chino Canyon (source). It provides scenic rides and recreational opportunities for those seeking to explore Mount San Jacinto State Park.
“We look forward to welcoming guests to the Tramway today.”
