The Palm Springs Animal Shelter, under the auspices of Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, has announced its plan to host a Tail-A-Thon. The event is organized in collaboration with NBC Palm Springs and aims to raise funds for essential services provided by the shelter to the city’s homeless pet population.

As per a flyer on the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter’s website, the Tail-A-Thon is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., December 14, 2023. It will be broadcasted on NBC Palm Springs (KMIR) and streamed live on the NBC Palm Springs Facebook Page. In line with traditional telethon formats, it will feature phone interviews and heartwarming adoption stories.

According to information on the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter website, this non-profit organization has been managing operations at the city’s animal shelter since 2012. The shelter operates under a no-kill policy, meaning that animals are not euthanized due to lack of space or prolonged stay. The shelter relies heavily on donations, volunteers and adoptions for its functioning. Regular fundraising events are especially crucial as it often operates at or near full capacity.

The Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter revealed that last year alone, they took in nearly 3,000 animals, predominantly cats and dogs. Out of these intakes, almost 2,000 were adopted into loving homes. In November 2023 alone, there were 232 intakes and 148 successful adoptions.

In addition to Tail-A-Thon, other fundraising events are lined up according to their website. These include the shelter’s inaugural Desert Pet Walk slated for February 24, 2024. On April 6, 2024, they will host their Faux Fur Ball which celebrates their life-saving work at a ticket price of $250 per person.
