The Palm Springs International Film Festival has announced the winners of three juried awards for its 36th edition. The festival, which runs from January 2-13, 2025, is showcasing 165 films from over 71 countries, including several premieres and Oscar submissions.

In the Desert Views category, “Checkpoint Zoo” directed by Joshua Zeman received the top honor. A special mention was given to “Desert Angel” by Vincent DeLuca. The jury comprised local residents Jose Macias, Margaret Quirante, Matt Ramirez, Tanisha L. Alston, and Sohelia Crane.

The Young Cineastes Award went to “Tatami,” directed by Zar Amir Ebrahimi and Guy Nattiv. A special mention was awarded to “Superboys of Malegaon” by Reema Kagti. This jury consisted of high school students Joseph Manjarrez, Lyla Valentine, and Stephanie Lopez.

Cinema Without Borders presented the Bridging the Borders Award to “Souleymane’s Story,” directed by Boris Lojkine. Scandar Copti’s “Happy Holidays” received a special mention in this category. Judges included Abbas Yari, Ali Murat Erkorkmaz, Bijan Tehrani, Granaz Moussavi, Keely Badger, Marcy Garriott, Michael Franck, Matt Ferro, Susan Morgan Cooper, and Vladek Juszkiewicz.

Additional awards will be announced on January 12 for categories such as Best Documentary and Audience Awards for Best Narrative Feature.
