The City of Palm Springs Measure J Commission is inviting residents, neighborhood organizations, businesses, and non-profits to submit proposals for a share of $6 million allocated for community-initiated projects. The funding comes from the City’s Measure J tax dollars. Projects can be either City-funded and managed or managed by non-profits.
The application process will open online on Monday, June 3 at palmspringsca.gov/measurejcommunityprojects. The deadline for submissions is Monday, Sept. 30 by 5:30 p.m.
Measure J, a one-cent sales tax increase approved by Palm Springs voters in 2011, aims to maintain local community services and economically revitalize the City’s downtown core. Over the past decade, Measure J funds have supported numerous community projects such as citywide street paving, upgrades to the Dog Park, Police Department and Fire stations renovations, restoration of historic buildings like the Welwood Murray Memorial Library and Plaza Theatre, park enhancements, and the construction of Downtown Park.
Hard copies of the application will be available at various City locations including City Hall, Palm Springs Public Library, Welwood Murray Memorial Library, Demuth Park Community Center, James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center, and the Leisure Center at Palm Springs Parks and Recreation.
Applications must be submitted online or sent by mail or in person to: City of Palm Springs, Attn: Melissa Sanchez, Finance Department, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262.
Eligible applications will be reviewed by the Commission for recommendation to the City Council for final approval.
