Registration for the inaugural Great DRD Hunt, organized by Desert Recreation District (DRD) in partnership with WADE (Wellness and Disability Equity Alliance) and Riverside University Health System, has been extended to Wednesday, September 17. The event is a free scavenger hunt open to families, friends, businesses, and teams throughout the Coachella Valley.

The Great DRD Hunt will take place from Saturday, September 20 through Saturday, October 11. Participants of all ages can visit DRD sites and sponsor locations while engaging in activities such as photo submissions, video clues, and Q&A tasks. The event is designed to encourage exploration of local parks and community spaces.

Lindsay Woods, Interim General Manager of DRD, stated: “The enthusiasm we’ve seen for The Great DRD Hunt is incredible. Extending registration through September 17 gives more families the chance to get outside, explore our parks, and create memories together. This event is more than just a scavenger hunt; it’s about bringing people together across the valley.”

A community celebration will be held on Saturday, October 11 at La Quinta Community Park from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring food, games, music, and awards for challenge winners.

Sponsors for the event include Fleet Science Center, Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network, Kaiser Grille, Texas Roadhouse, Stuft Pizza, Coachella Valley Firebirds, One Valley Foundation, Sonic Drive-In, Agua Caliente, Red Jeep Tours, and Fantasy Springs.

DRD serves over 432,000 residents across more than 1,887 square miles in the greater Coachella Valley. The organization manages over 49 parks and recreation facilities and offers various programs aimed at fostering health and community engagement.
