Congressman Ken Calvert announced on Apr. 23 that the House Appropriations Committee passed the Fiscal Year 2027 Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill, which includes several provisions for Riverside County requested by Calvert.
The measures address local needs in postal services, small business support, and drug control efforts. The bill directs the United States Postal Service to report on metrics for acquiring new facilities and specifically analyze the potential acquisition of a post office for Eastvale. It also calls for a review of overlapping municipal zip code jurisdictions to consider solutions such as assigning Eastvale its own unique zip code.
“Eastvale is one of the largest cities in the state that does not have its own post office,” said Congressman Ken Calvert. “Local residents and small business owners should have access to USPS services without having to drive long distances. Since the city’s incorporation, Eastvale residents have regularly voiced frustrations with the lack of a unique zip code properly identifying the city. I have and will continue to work with Eastvale officials to support their USPS priorities.”
The legislation also addresses small business concerns by requiring the Small Business Administration (SBA) to fill a long-vacant Senior Area Manager position at its Coachella Valley office before hiring any new staff at SBA headquarters in Washington, D.C. “Many of the small businesses in the Coachella Valley need assistance with the SBA benefits that help them keep their doors open,” said Calvert. “This office has been vacant for years dating back to the Biden Administration, which is totally unacceptable. I will keep fighting to get our job creators the help they need.”
Additionally, increased funding is provided for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Program (HIDTA), which supports law enforcement agencies combating drug trafficking in critical regions across America. “The HIDTA Program brings a whole of government approach to getting drugs off the streets in communities that are significantly impacted by illicit drug trafficking,” said Calvert. “The funding increase in this bill will give law enforcement more resources to protect Americans from these deadly drugs.”
Ken Calvert has served as U.S Representative for California’s 41st District since 1993 according to the official biographical guide. He was born in Corona, California in 1953 and continues to reside there as reported by Congress.gov. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 according to his official biography.
