Today, Defense Appropriations Chairman Ken Calvert (CA-41) along with House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole and State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) have unveiled crucial security supplemental bills aimed at providing much-needed defense assistance to allies and partners worldwide.

In a statement, Rep. Calvert emphasized the urgent need for decisive action to safeguard America’s national security interests. He highlighted the challenges posed by Iran, China, and Russia, stressing that clear decisions are essential to protect both the American people and allies. Rep. Calvert expressed concern over the threats faced by key ally Israel from Iran and its proxies, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

Regarding Russia’s actions in Ukraine, Rep. Calvert condemned Putin’s invasion and emphasized the need to prevent further aggression. He warned of the heightened risk of conflict in Europe if Russia is not deterred, emphasizing the importance of halting Putin’s incursions into Ukraine.

The security supplemental bills address specific regional challenges, including the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, and the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. These bills aim to provide critical support to allies facing security threats and bolster U.S. military operations in strategic regions.

Rep. Calvert commended Speaker Johnson and Chairman Cole for their efforts in addressing concerns and priorities in the bills, emphasizing the necessity of timely investments in national security. He highlighted the importance of a unified front with allies to send a strong message to adversaries in Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing.

The bills include provisions such as replenishing defense systems, providing weapons and lethal assistance, and strengthening security cooperation with regional partners. Rep. Calvert underscored that the funding allocated is not a blank check and outlined requirements for cost-sharing among allies and repayment agreements.

In conclusion, Rep. Calvert stressed the critical nature of these security supplemental bills in safeguarding America’s interests and reinforcing alliances amidst evolving global threats.
