Congressman Ken Calvert voted on May 15 with a majority of the House of Representatives to pass the Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The legislation provides annual funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs as well as military infrastructure.
The measure is significant because it addresses healthcare and benefits programs for veterans while also investing in military construction projects. These priorities are seen as essential to supporting both former service members and current active duty personnel.
“The FY27 MilCon/VA Appropriations bill approved by the House today upholds our commitments to our veterans as well as our active duty servicemembers,” said Congressman Ken Calvert. “By fully funding the healthcare and benefits programs our veterans rely on, we can ensure they get the resources they need. The bill also includes robust funding for military construction, enabling continued investment in the Indo-Pacific region.”
According to provisions included at Calvert’s request, the bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to compile a report evaluating its ability to measure and report call wait times and response performance across VA facilities, including crisis lines. It also encourages expanded efforts in limb loss medical research by enhancing care coordination services for veteran amputees nationwide.
Ken Calvert has served in Congress representing California’s 41st District since 1993, according to his official website. He was born in Corona, California in 1953 and currently lives there. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975.
As lawmakers continue work on appropriations bills for next year, supporters say this legislation reflects ongoing efforts to meet commitments made to those who have served.
