Riverside County Coroner identifies woman killed on I-10 near Red Cloud Mine Road

The Riverside Sheriff’s Office announced on Mar. 12 that Margarita Mares De Torres, a 61-year-old woman from Greenfield, California, was identified as the victim in a fatal incident on eastbound Interstate 10 west of the Red Cloud Mine Road exit.

According to the coroner’s press release, Mares De Torres died at approximately 11:40 p.m. on March 11. The injury that led to her death occurred just five minutes earlier at the same location.

The California Highway Patrol Indio is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident under investigation number 9630-2026-00371. Authorities have notified Mares De Torres’ next of kin.

Officials ask that all inquiries regarding this case be directed to the investigating agency.

This case marks another fatality along this stretch of Interstate 10 and highlights ongoing safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians in the area.
