Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Jurupa Valley will conduct a DUI saturation patrol between Friday and Saturday, January 2-3, from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The effort is aimed at identifying drivers suspected of being under the influence.
Sergeant Rafael Lopez stated, “Impaired driving is preventable. It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impaired driving can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs. They advise drivers to read warning labels and follow usage instructions carefully. Although marijuana use is legal for medicinal and recreational purposes in California, it remains illegal to drive while under its influence.
Those found driving impaired may face significant consequences, including fines and penalties averaging $13,500 for a first-time DUI offense and license suspension.
Funding for this enforcement operation comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
