Riverside County inmate found dead in jail cell; suicide suspected

On January 1, 2026, a 19-year-old male inmate identified as Ezekiel Cuenca-Torres was found unresponsive in his cell at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. According to officials, corrections staff and medical personnel responded immediately to provide lifesaving aid, with paramedics also assisting. Despite their efforts, Cuenca-Torres was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Central Investigations Bureau and the Coroner’s Bureau have taken over the investigation into the death. Authorities stated that there were no signs of foul play and indicated that the incident appears to be a suicide. The family of Cuenca-Torres has been notified.

“The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available,” according to authorities. They are asking anyone with information about this case to contact Investigator Art Rodriguez at (951) 955-6950.
