The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Jurupa Valley plans to hold a DUI checkpoint on August 29, 2025. The operation will run from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

According to the sheriff’s office, locations for DUI checkpoints are selected based on data related to impaired driving crashes. The goal is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Sergeant Rafael Lopez. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Officials noted that impairment is not limited to alcohol use. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect a person’s ability to drive safely. Additionally, while marijuana may be legal for medicinal or recreational purposes, driving under its influence remains illegal.

The sheriff’s office stated that individuals charged with a first-time DUI can expect average fines and penalties totaling $13,500, along with a suspended license.

Funding for this checkpoint program comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
