The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Palm Desert Station, will conduct DUI patrols on Friday, July 18th. The patrols will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., focusing on drivers suspected of driving under the influence.

“Impaired driving is preventable,” Deputy Ralph Leal stated. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or consuming drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

The Sheriff’s Office highlights that impaired driving can result not only from alcohol but also from certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs. It advises drivers to follow usage directions and heed warning labels about driving. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, it remains illegal to drive under its influence.

First-time offenders caught driving impaired face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and may have their license suspended.

This enforcement operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
