The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office will conduct DUI patrols in Palm Desert on Friday, July 25th. The operation will run from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence.

“Impaired driving is preventable,” Deputy Paul Abrego stated. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or consuming drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impaired driving includes more than just alcohol consumption. Certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can also affect driving abilities. It is important to follow usage directions and heed warning labels regarding driving. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under its influence remains illegal.

First-time offenders caught driving impaired face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.

This program receives funding from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
