Riverside County Sheriff investigates fatal shooting in Moreno Valley

On August 15, 2025, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 13000 block of Day Street, Moreno Valley. Upon arrival at approximately 4:05 a.m., deputies found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries.

The suspect left the scene in a vehicle before law enforcement arrived. Deputies obtained a description of the vehicle and located it about an hour later in Moreno Valley. The driver, identified as Jacob Necochea, age 19 and a resident of Banning, was detained and transported to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station for further investigation.

Homicide investigators later identified the victim as Angelo Leivas, also 19 years old and from Banning. According to authorities, “During the investigation, they determined that the driver of the vehicle was the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jacob Necochea, also a resident of Banning. Necochea was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center for murder.”

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office stated that “This investigation is still ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time.” They encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Central Homicide Unit Investigator Hood at (951) 955–2777 or Moreno Valley Station Investigator Vasquez at (951) 486–6700.
