Riverside County Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal shooting in Mecca

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office announced on March 25 that it is investigating a homicide after an 18-year-old was found dead from gunshot wounds in Mecca.

The case concerns the death of Anjel Rodriguez, a resident of Thermal, who was discovered by deputies at the intersection of Coahuilla Street and 6th Street. Deputies responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon at approximately 7:58 p.m. on March 24.

According to Sergeant Alberto Loureiro, Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Central Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
