The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office – Lake Elsinore Station announced on March 23 that it will be conducting patrols targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) on March 26, 2026.
These patrols are part of ongoing efforts to address impaired driving in the community. The Sheriff’s Office reminded residents that impairment is not limited to alcohol consumption. “Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving,” the department said in its announcement. The statement also noted that while medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, it remains illegal to drive under their influence.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, individuals caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI could face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as a suspended license.
Funding for these DUI saturation patrols is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
