The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Moreno Valley will conduct a DUI checkpoint on September 5, 2025. The operation is scheduled to take place from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at an undisclosed location.
According to the department, locations for these checkpoints are selected based on data that identifies areas with higher rates of impaired driving-related crashes. The main goal is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Deputy Leander Langford. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription and over-the-counter medications. While marijuana use is legal for both medicinal and recreational purposes in California, it remains illegal to drive under its influence.
First-time DUI offenders face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this program comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
