The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has announced it will conduct DUI patrols in Palm Desert on Friday, August 15, from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. Deputies will be looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Deputy Paul Abrego said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or consuming drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
Officials remind residents that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from certain prescription and over-the-counter medications. The department advises drivers to read warning labels and follow usage directions for all medications. While marijuana is legal for both medicinal and recreational use in California, operating a vehicle under its influence remains against the law.
First-time offenders charged with DUI could face fines and penalties averaging $13,500, as well as license suspension.
The enforcement operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
