The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jurupa Valley Station, is promoting National Walk and Roll to School Day on October 8. The event aims to encourage families and students in Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, and Norco to use active transportation methods such as walking or biking when traveling to school.
Deputy Jonathan Kehrier said, “National Walk and Roll to School Day is a great opportunity to highlight pedestrian safety and advocate for safer routes for walking and biking to school. This day underscores the importance of boosting physical activity and prioritizes the safety of the families in our community.”
With more children expected on foot or bicycle during the morning of October 8, authorities are reminding drivers to remain alert, reduce speed in school zones, stop for school buses, and watch for children crossing streets. Safety tips have also been provided by the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station for students who walk or bike.
Schools are being encouraged to register their participation at walkbiketoschool.org so that involvement can be tracked and support shown for safe transportation initiatives.
Funding for this initiative comes from a grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
