National Walk and Roll to School Day will take place on October 8, with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Perris Station, encouraging families and students to participate. The event aims to promote exercise and highlight the importance of safe walking and biking routes for students.
Sergeant Jeremy Bracey said, “National Walk and Roll to School Day is a great opportunity to highlight pedestrian safety and advocate for safer routes for walking and biking to school. This day underscores the importance of boosting physical activity and prioritizes the safety of the families in our community.”
The sheriff’s office notes that drivers should be especially cautious on October 8 due to increased foot and bike traffic. Drivers are reminded to watch for school buses, children crossing streets, and always reduce speed in school zones.
Students who walk, bike, or use other active means to get to school are encouraged to follow safety tips provided by the Perris Sheriff’s Station. Schools can register their participation at walkbiketoschool.org as a way of tracking involvement and supporting safe transportation options.
The program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
