The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in San Jacinto is encouraging families and students to participate in National Walk and Roll to School Day on October 8. The event aims to promote exercise and highlight the need for safe walking and biking routes for students traveling to school.
Sergeant Patrick Lynch of the San Jacinto Station said, “National Walk and Roll to School Day is a great opportunity to highlight pedestrian safety and advocate for safer routes for walking and biking to school. This day underscores the importance of boosting physical activity and prioritizes the safety of the families in our community.”
Authorities are reminding drivers to be extra cautious on October 8 due to increased foot and bicycle traffic near schools. Drivers are urged to watch for children crossing streets, be ready to stop for school buses, and reduce speed in school zones.
The San Jacinto Sheriff Station also shared safety tips for students who walk, bike, or use other methods of active transportation when going to school. Schools can register their participation at walkbiketoschool.org as a way of tracking involvement and supporting healthy, safe travel options.
This program receives funding from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
