The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office plans to conduct a DUI checkpoint in Temecula on August 29, 2025. The operation will take place from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location.
According to the department, checkpoint sites are selected based on data that indicate where impaired driving-related crashes have occurred. The main goal is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Deputy Eastwood. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Officials noted that impairment is not limited to alcohol use; some prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect a person’s ability to drive safely. While marijuana use for medicinal and recreational purposes is legal in California, it remains illegal to drive under its influence.
The sheriff’s office stated that those convicted of a first-time DUI could face fines and penalties averaging $13,500 and may have their license suspended.
Funding for this initiative comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
