Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Jurupa Valley will conduct a DUI saturation patrol on Friday and Saturday, September 5-6, from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The patrol aims to identify drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Deputy Jonathan Kehrier said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
The sheriff’s office notes that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs. Residents are advised to follow usage directions and heed warning labels regarding driving after taking such substances. Driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal, despite its legal status for medicinal and recreational use in California.
Those charged with a first-time DUI may face fines and penalties averaging $13,500 and risk having their license suspended.
The program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
