The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a DUI checkpoint in Palm Desert on September 5, 2025. The operation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location.
Checkpoint sites are selected based on data related to impaired driving incidents and crashes. The main goal is to improve public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Deputy Leyva said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Authorities remind residents that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription and over-the-counter medications. Although marijuana is legal for medicinal and recreational use in California, driving under its influence remains illegal.
Funding for this program comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
