Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Jurupa Valley will conduct a DUI saturation patrol from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26, through 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27. The patrol aims to identify and stop drivers suspected of being under the influence.

Sergeant Rafael Lopez emphasized the importance of making responsible choices, stating, “Impaired driving is preventable. It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

The Sheriff’s Office highlighted that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription and over-the-counter medications. The public is advised to follow directions for use and read warning labels regarding driving. While marijuana is legal for medicinal and recreational use in California, it remains illegal to drive under its influence.

A first-time DUI offense may lead to an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as license suspension.

This enforcement effort is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

For further information about this incident, media representatives are directed to contact the Media Information Bureau.
