National Walk and Roll to School Day will take place on October 8, with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office urging families and students to participate by walking or biking to school. The annual event aims to promote exercise and highlight the importance of safe routes for children traveling to and from school.
“National Walk and Roll to School Day is a great opportunity to highlight pedestrian safety and advocate for safer routes for walking and biking to school,” said Sergeant Marcos Acosta. “This day underscores the importance of boosting physical activity and prioritizes the safety of the families in our community.”
The Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers that extra caution is necessary on October 8 due to increased numbers of students walking or biking. Motorists are advised to watch for school buses, be prepared for children crossing streets, and reduce speed in school zones.
To encourage participation, schools are invited to register at walkbiketoschool.org, which helps track involvement in the event and demonstrates support for active transportation options.
Funding for this program comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
