The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office’s Southwest Station will hold a DUI checkpoint on July 25, 2025. The checkpoint will operate from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Temecula.
DUI checkpoint sites are selected based on data highlighting incidents of crashes related to impaired driving. The primary aim is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” stated Deputy Eastwood. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that impairment can be caused not only by alcohol but also by certain prescription and over-the-counter medications. While both medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under its influence remains illegal.
First-time DUI offenders face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, alongside a suspended license.
This program receives funding through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, backed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
