The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office will conduct DUI patrols in Indian Wells on Friday, August 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Deputies will be looking for drivers suspected of operating vehicles under the influence.

“Impaired driving is preventable,” said Deputy Jeffrey Visscher. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or consuming drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impairment is not limited to alcohol use. Prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect driving ability, and individuals are encouraged to read warning labels and follow usage instructions. Driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal, regardless of its legal status for medicinal or recreational purposes.

According to authorities, those charged with a first-time DUI offense may face fines and penalties averaging $13,500 and risk having their license suspended.

This enforcement operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
