The Riverside County Supervisors gave their approval to the Riverside University Health System’s (RUHS) Wellness Village in Mead Valley at the end of last month. This innovative behavioral health project is being hailed by the county as a model that will seamlessly integrate behavioral health treatment with medical care and social services.
According to an April 30 press release, the RUHS Wellness Village is slated for completion in 2026. The facility will feature a crisis residential behavioral health center for children and a Children’s Mental Health Urgent Care, both firsts for this Southern California county.
First District Supervisor Kevin Jeffries stated that this facility signifies a significant shift in how the county delivers healthcare. He further added that it would serve as a model for the rest of California.
MyNewsLA.com reported that the village, which received unanimous approval with a 5-0 vote, carries a $580 million price tag.
The new facility, spanning 19 acres, will be situated at the intersection of Harvill and Placentia avenues in Mead Valley. According to information on their website, a ceremonial groundbreaking at the site is scheduled for the afternoon of June 1.
Upon its completion, the village will offer primary and specialty medical care, dental services, substance use disorder services, and a pharmacy. It will also provide onsite respite for families with children in short-term residential care.
Dr. Matthew Chang, RUHS Behavioral Health Director, said in the release that this project “is unlike anything else that’s been done.”
