The Riverside Sheriff’s Office in Perris will conduct DUI patrols on August 15, 2025, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The effort aims to identify and stop drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Deputy Jess Kiebach said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
Officials emphasized that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription and over-the-counter medications. The public is advised to follow medication instructions and heed warnings about operating vehicles after use. Although marijuana is legal for medicinal and recreational purposes in California, driving while under its influence remains illegal.
Those convicted of a first-time DUI may face an average cost of $13,500 in fines and penalties and risk having their license suspended.
Funding for this enforcement effort comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
