The Coachella Valley Firebirds secured a 5-1 victory over the Ontario Reign on Sunday at Toyota Arena, ending their three-game winless streak. Lleyton Roed scored twice and provided an assist, while Jagger Firkus recorded his fourth multi-goal game of the season.
The scoring began less than a minute into the first period when Jani Nyman assisted Firkus for his 15th goal of the season, with Caden Price also earning an assist. The Firebirds increased their lead with a shorthanded goal from Roed after Ty Nelson set up a 2-on-1 opportunity. Ontario answered during the same powerplay with a goal by Jack Hughes.
Mitchell Stephens restored the two-goal lead early in the second period, capitalizing on a play initiated by Roed and assisted by Eduard Sale. Later in the period, Roed scored again off assists from Logan Morrison and Tyson Jugnauth. In the third period, Firkus added his second goal following an assist from Oscar Fisker Molgaard.
Goaltender Jack LaFontaine stopped 20 of 21 shots to earn his third win of the season. The Firebirds outshot Ontario 31-21 and improved their record to 23-14-5-0.

The team will continue its road trip against the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday, February 4 at Tech CU Arena.
The next home game is scheduled for Friday, February 13 against the Tucson Roadrunners for Kraken Night at Acrisure Arena.
