Gunfire injured two people in downtown Palm Springs early Sunday morning, resulting in two arrests, a March 21 post on the Palm Springs Police Department Facebook page said.

Reports of a shooting in the 200 block of South Indian Canyon Drive at approximately 1:50 a.m. led officers to discover at least two gunshot victims, both of whom were transported to a local hospital with mild injuries, the post said.

With the help of a description, officers quickly located and arrested the suspected shooters: Juan Macias, 27, of Desert Hot Springs; and Luis Garcia, 31, of Palm Springs; the post said. Both face felony charges including attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. They were taken to John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio. Garcia faces the additional charge of violating parole.

Bail was set at $1 million for Macias, while Garcia is not eligible for bail, a recent NBCPalmSprings.com news release said.

Police officers were in the area at the time of the shooting, which helped them to locate the suspects within minutes, the post said. The quick response brought many comments of support for the officers on Facebook.

Police are asking witnesses to the shooting or those with information that could assist their investigation to call Det. Jimenez at 760-323-8136 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
