During the Desert Hot Springs Rotary Club Big Heart Awards ceremony held last Thursday, Executive Assistant Dori Petee was honored as the Mission Springs Water District Person of the Year for her outstanding contributions to the DHS community.

Petee was one of twelve individuals and three businesses honored at the sold-out event held at the Miracle Springs Resort and Spa.

Putting her organizational and leadership skills to good use, Petee works tirelessly to help others in the DHS community. She joined the DHS Rotary Club in 2018 and has held multiple leadership roles within the organization, including serving as Co-Secretary in 2018-19, heading up the EarlyAct Club at Two Bunch Palms Elementary School, and serving as the 2022-23 International Services Chairperson.

Petee's passion for helping others goes well beyond her Rotarian service. She can be found regularly supporting organizations such as the Desert Hot Springs Women's Club and serving as an inspiration to her coworkers at MSWD. Examples include her leadership in organizing the District's award-winning Holiday Float and being a regular donor during MSWD's LiveStream blood drives and holiday food and toy collection efforts. Most recently, she spearheaded efforts at the District to collect used athletic shoes for a recycling program benefiting local elementary school children.

Petee has been employed at MSWD for more than five years and is responsible for assisting the General Manager and Board of Directors. Before joining the District, she was a kindergarten teacher at Saint Theresa Elementary School.

"In both her personal and professional life, Dori displays a passion for excellence that shines through in everything she does. Fierce and loyal to her family, she brings this same dedication to MSWD and our customers and inspires her coworkers to go above and beyond in our service to the Desert Hot Springs community," said MSWD General Manager Arden Wallum.

Petee is the fourth MSWD employee to be honored by the DHS Rotary for "Service Above Self" contributions to the DHS community. Previous winners include Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I Mark Vermeer (2020), Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II Christopher Jacobson (2019), and Office Specialist II Carol Morin (2018).
