Risking one's own safety to rescue a driver from a burning car is Cathedral City's definition of a true hero and the reason they bestowed a Certificate of Recognition on Francisco Enriquez recently.

The honor took place at the City Council's first in-person meeting since last August and was coupled with further accolades, those awarded the 40th Anniversary Committee for planning a successful November bash.

"The council took this opportunity to honor Francisco Enriquez and the Cathedral City 40th Anniversary Planning Committee," a recent release on the Discover Cathedral City website reported.

Fire Chief John Muhr presented the certificate to Enriquez for the selfless action he took after arriving on the scene of a car accident at approximately 1 a.m. on Jan. 11.

Enriquez sprung into action when he saw that the car was on fire but the driver was still stuck inside the vehicle. He succeeded in freeing the man and getting him out of the way of danger. The driver has since made a full recovery.
