The grand opening of Cathedral City's Panorama Dog Park, part of an effort to improve the city's outdoor offerings, is set for Friday, May 13.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held by the City Council and Community Events Commission at 9 a.m. to officially give local dogs a place to romp, Discover Cathedral City reported. The dog park can be found at 28905 Avenida Maravilla on Panorama Park's east side.

"During the virtual 'State of the City,' Mayor Raymond Gregory spoke about the city council's determination to improve the quality of our outdoor spaces," Discover Cathedral City reported in a release last May. "Moving forward, the city council is working to create two new dog parks — one at Panorama Park on the north side of the city and one on the southside to replace the current temporary dog park."

The dog park has been designed with a section for small dogs and another for larger dogs, Discover Cathedral City reported. To make it a more enjoyable experience, the park will provide water stations for both dogs and owners, benches made using recycled materials, landscaping consisting of shady trees and boulders, and, of course, stations with dog-waste bags and waste receptacles. Walking paths will allow owners to take their pets on a stroll as well.

Other projects Gregory announced include new art sculptures for Panorama Park, fixing up the "Rainbow Crossing" by the bell tower, hiring artists to paint park fixtures and more, Discover Cathedral City reported.
