A pedestrian survey worker standing in the center median was struck and killed Monday afternoon by a truck westbound on State Route 62 in Morongo Valley, according to News Channel 3. Two others sustained suspected moderate injuries, the article said.
"The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian survey worker while he was standing near his truck in the center median of State Route 62 in Morongo Valley," according to the Channel 3 article.
It remains unclear why the driver of a Ford F-150 crossed into the center median while traveling westbound in the direction of Senilis Avenue at approximately 2:10 p.m., according to Channel 3. Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash, the article said.
As a result of the accident, the survey worker was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Palm Springs and pronounced deceased, Channel 3 reports, adding that investigators have not disclosed the victim's identity.
According to Channel 3, the F-150 also hit the pedestrian's work truck, causing it to strike a Toyota Rav4 that was heading east on SR-62. The driver of the Ford as well as an 18-year-old passenger were taken to DRMC with suspected moderate injuries, the same article said. The passenger of the F150 was the only occupant of the truck who did not wear a seat belt.
Additionally, while investigators have not yet identified the F-150 driver, the Channel 3 article describes him as a 39-year-old male.
