The Palm Springs International Airport is looking to include more local shops and restaurants at the airport as the contract with its current operator is set to expire on April 30, 2023.

According to information distributed by the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, the Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) submitted a Request for Proposals (RFP) to the chamber this week.

The RFP reflects the airport's desire for a "fresh take" on the businesses located in its midst. PSP is seeking more local options, and according to the Chamber of Commerce, intends to expand with additional restaurants and possibly a duty-free shop.

"For the past several years, our airport shops and restaurants have not had a local feel...With this new contract, we hope to bring in more local options and replicate that Palm Springs vibe that we’ve all come to love," Executive Director of Aviation Harry Barrett said.

For prospective businesses, PSP will be hosting a pre-proposal meeting on July 18. Interested businesses will have to submit their proposals by 2 p.m. on Sept. 22.
