Issac Vargas, a 22-year-old resident of Coachella, was arrested recently by area law enforcement officers in connection with a May 30 shooting in Coachella.

According to a release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, officers from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team and the Thermal Station Investigations Bureau arrested Vargas at his residence in the 84200 block of Redondo Sur in Coachella.

"With the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, the Thermal Stations Investigations Bureau served a search warrant at the residence and Vargas was taken into custody without incident. Vargas was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center, in the city of Indio, for attempt homicide."

Vargas was arrested after being positively identified as the primary suspect after an investigation into the shooting that took place on May 30, 2022, at 2:10 a.m. on the 49200 block of Cesar Chavez.  According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, a 25-year-old male was “walking to his vehicle in the parking lot, when a male suspect approached him, pulled out a firearm and shot him multiple times, then fled the scene.”  The victim, according to the Sheriff’s Department, was transported to a local hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

Deputies from the Thermal Station responded to a call and immediately launched an investigation that led them to Vargas. No motive has been given for the attack nor is it known where Vargas had a connection with the victim.
