A documented street gang member and convicted felon was arrested Wednesday after the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force executed a search warrant on a Desert Hot Springs home.
"The search warrant was the culmination of an investigation that resulted in the arrest of convicted felon and documented criminal street gang member Christopher Arana, a 29-year-old resident of Indio," Sgt. Paul Heredia of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.
The suspect had active felony arrest warrants for narcotics and weapons violations as well as a supervised release violation, the press release noted. Arana was in possession of a loaded 9-mm semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, cash, and suspected fentanyl pills during the search, which occurred in the 66000 block of Fourth Street, Heredia said.
As a result, Arana faces multiple charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with narcotics, possession of fentanyl, being a gang member with a firearm, and failure to appear in court while on bail, according to the press release.
Arana was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio after his arrest.
