Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine has opened a second site in Palm Springs as part of its mission to provide free health care to those in need.

Donations and grants made it possible for Coachella Valley Volunteers to provide a new clinic in Palm Springs just across East Tachevah Drive from Desert Regional Medical Center, according to the Desert Sun. The clinic offers free health-care services to low-income Coachella Valley residents with no medical insurance.

“I think, in Palm Springs, there's so much often going on that it overshadows other things, and we're here to fill in some of the cracks,” said Cliff Wynne, physician and clinic medical director, in the Desert Sun report. “We do know that Desert Hot Springs, for example, North Palm Springs, all of those areas — traditionally, they've been underserved."

To fulfill the goal of free medical care, doctors and other medical professionals volunteer their time, the Desert Sun reported. Doug Morin, the organization's executive director, told the Desert Sun he estimates the clinics receive approximately $400,000 in medical services from the physicians and staff members who volunteer. Each year, the clinic handles an average of 4,000 patient visits.

Patrons can visit the new Palm Springs clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, according to the article. The clinic’s address is Suite 204 of Building 1W on 555 East Tachevah Drive. Appointments can be made by calling 760-342-4414.

People interested in volunteering or donating to the clinic can visit the Coachella Valley Volunteers website.
