The Riverside County Sheriff's Department will host critical incident training at local schools in the Palo Verde Unified School District complete with scripted simulations of critical incidents.
According to Deputy Alex Ruvalcaba with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the Colorado River Station will be collaborating with the Palo Verde School District to conduct critical incident training sessions on Friday, Aug. 5. These sessions are designed to prepare law enforcement in the event a critical incident should occur at a school.
"This training will involve simulation of critical incidents," Deputy Ruvalcaba said in the release from the Sheriff's Department. "During the simulation, there will be a law-enforcement presence, role players, loudspeakers and other props to simulate a critical incident on a school campus."
The training simulation will start at 9 a.m. and last for several hours.
Before the simulated training, the Palo Verde Unified School District plans to notify residents surrounding each location, the release said.
This collaborative training effort will involve Sheriff's Department personnel from Riverside and La Paz counties, Blythe Police, California Highway Patrol and Border Patrol.
Throughout the year, the Colorado River Station will conduct multiple force-on-force training scenarios to help prepare staff.
